3 2 LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Thank you for your interest in INPUT 2018 (the International Public Television conference). Your participation should be mutually advantageous, furthering your personal and professional involvement with public television while advancing public media on an international level. This convergence of public television storytellers from around the world will create a unique opportunity for professionals to exchange ideas about public and educational programming. This is what INPUT is all about. Public media are powerful, and education is of primary importance. If an involvement with public media and education is something you would like, don’t miss this opportunity. Please come. This is the first time INPUT will be anyplace in New York State. Its footprint is worldwide, and it is improbable that it will return within the next few decades. There really is nothing else like it. INPUT is not a festival or a market. It is a place of professional growth and awareness. Professionals find out what their colleagues are doing around the world. It is a place to develop abilities and to network. Independent producers and filmmakers are encouraged to participate. Students of public media are also welcome. INPUT 2018 also will be an opportunity for the international public television professional community to find out about New York firsthand. The experience will stay with everyone involved for years to come. If you are interested in supporting INPUT 2018 financially or with an in-kind contribution, please let me know, and I will send you a Fundraising Proposal. Let me add, I am serving as the executive producer on a completely volunteer basis. Forest Creatures Foundation, the host of INPUT 2018, is a non-profit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity. Other non-profits which are part of the team as co-hosts are WNET (the New York- based group of public television stations) and Brooklyn College. We are all committed to what this is about. That’s our motivation. We hope you will decide to join us. Sincerely, Leonard Merrill Kurz Executive Producer, INPUT 2018 Table of Contents Letter from the Executive Producer........................2 About INPUT.....................................................................3-5 New York City & Brooklyn ...........................................6 Conference Dates ...............................................................6 Host & Co-hosts...................................................................7 Events & Schedule..........................................................8-9 Venues......................................................................................10 Testimonials..........................................................................11 INPUT is the International Public Television Conference, also known as the International Public Television Screening Conference. Its primary event is an annual global conference for public broadcasting professionals, centered on three screening rooms simultaneously presenting some of the best and most innovative public television programming from around the world. The programs cover a variety of genres and must have been broadcast on public television. Each country nominates its own national selection, with the final selection made by an international group of program “moderators” who go on to the conference and facilitate the screening. This process ensures an international perspective. In any given year, 60 to 100 countries are represented at INPUT. A representative of each program (producer, director, executive, etc.) must be present at the screening for an exchange with the delegates. Aarhus, Denmark (INPUT 2003) About INPUT “It is exciting to be able to bring INPUT back into the United States after such a long sabbatical and into New York State for the first time ever.” Leonard Merrill Kurz, INPUT 2018 Executive Producer Tokyo, Japan (INPUT 2015) “…I always appreciated… how [INPUT] builds a solid, trusting community of like-minded people who are committed to public service broadcasting around the world.” Bill Gilcher, Harmonia Band Communications, LLC Discounted group registration available.
