  • Forest Creatures Foundation is a grant making organization dedicated to building a culture of enduring peace, coexistence, and community. Areas of interest include environmental/climate justice, sustainable/alternative food systems, dramatic/performance arts, media, and grassroots systems change.
Holding the values of community engagement, creative responses to complex and urgent problems of the modern world, and the highest ideals of trusting and supporting those doing the work – we seek to advance deep, progressive, transformational, systemic change. We take an ecosystem view to funding – supporting an array of organizations that collectively offer complementary strategies and approaches rather than seeking exclusively one solution. Forest Creatures Foundation was founded in 2008 by filmmaker and philanthropist Leonard Merrill Kurz.
The Foundation currently has two grant cycles per year with an emphasis on small organizations without national support. In honor of Leonard Kurz, Legacy Grants support organizations he championed throughout his life, prioritizing independent productions and new media.
Forest Creatures Foundation’s Board of Directors identifies grantee organizations. We do not accept, nor do we have a mechanism or staffing to respond to unsolicited requests for funding.
